These interesting pictures were taken at a snake farm in Bangkok in 1981. They show snake handlers demonstrating how to take the venom from King Cobras.
Large crowds assembled to watch the performance in the central region of the Thai capital. In one picture, a government worker holds the deadly reptile by the head while a vet plies open its mouth to extract the venom to be used in medicines.
Almost half a century later and Bangkok, and Thailand, has more snakes than ever. Rescue services around the country are often called out to deal with instances of snakes such as pythons and cobras that are found in people’s homes and gardens.
