Eerie footage shows an abandoned five star hotel that has been left untouched for almost a decade after the owners packed up and left amid crippling debts.
The Grand Ayudhaya Hotel was once one of the biggest in Bangkok with hundreds of guests from around the world staying there every day.
But when visitor numbers plummeted during a political crisis in 2010, the owners were unable to meet bank repayments.
The 600-room hotel – which even had two replica ancient temples – suddenly closed a short time later with little notice. Staff were sent home and many of the items inside were deserted.
Despite being dubbed a ‘’ghost hotel’’ by locals, the building’s plush interior has remained untouched since then – with plates still piled on tables, breakfast menus laid out and a baby’s high chair waiting at table.
Luxury leather sofas can be seen inside the 32-storey high Grand Ayudhaya building and paperwork has been left on the desks where receptionists and porters once worked.
And in the receptionist, a white silk cloth is still stretched across a table in front of an ornate marble stair case. Bizarrely, indoor plants have been kept neatly trimmed by security guards who are the only ones to enter.
While next to a sport’s court, flip-flops worn by guests are still on the ground having been left as the hotel suddenly closed its doors.
The swimming pool and jacuzzi on the eight floor of the skyscraper have filled with green slime and rubbish.
The spooky footage was captured earlier this month in Thailand by an urban explorer who noticed the deserted building from the road, where it sits between other high-rise blocks bustling with life.
He said: ”You can see from walking around that this was supposed to be a really high class hotel. The temples, gold decorations, lions at the door and leather wrapped around the gold coloured door handles would have looked great in their day.
‘’But the security guards and locals said that visitor numbers dropped and then the political turmoil around the time affected tourism badly. After that there was no way back. It’s sad that such a large and prestigious hotel has ended up like this.
‘’The way it has been left is like a ghost town. Everything is in its place, but it looks like one day it was running then suddenly the doors were locked and people just upped sticks and left. It’s a little creepy walking around it.”
With the former owners unable to pay the bills, the building was repossessed by one of the large Thai banks which has kept it on its books ever since.
According to security staff who protect the building round the clock from vandals and squatters, it has been empty for roughly seven years.
They said that the only people to enter are bosses from the security firm.
Each door is protected with chains and padlocks on the outside and bars of metal on the inside.
Thai language forums describe it as a ‘’scary’’ place to visit, even when it was open.
One user said: ‘’It was always empty. I never saw any customers. I just went there to use the swimming pool but I never felt so scary.’’
Another added: ‘’It was very quiet and people would rarely stay. Not it’s totally dark at night, it’s like a ghost hotel.”
Planning submissions in the Hua Kwang district of Bangkok where the hotel is located do not show any current plans for demolishing the building and no buyers are believed to have forward to purchase the real estate.
