Anyone who has been to Thailand for than a couple of times will know just how popular the Line messaging app is. Well, the company is building on that popularity and now opening a Line theme park in Bangkok.
Thailand is the app’s second most popular country after Japan, where it was developed.
Line stores already exist in Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan, but the Thai location will be the first with an indoor park, according to Khaosod English.
Project developer Kampanart Wonghongkul said he hopes the 500 million baht ($14.7 million) theme park will attract more than 12 million visitors a year. Tourism is a major revenue earner in Thailand, bringing in $71.4 billion last year.
Since its launch in 2011, Japan-based, Korean-owned Line has amassed more 200 million users worldwide. Thailand has around 44 million cellphone users and 94 percent of them have the Line application installed on their phones, Kampanart said.
