It’s something of a step up from your usual $20-a-night bolthole.

Kata Rocks in Phuket charges a minimum of $800 (27,000THB) a night – and it’s become a hit on Instagram with rich kids who want to show off.

The luxury resort is decked out in plush white leather with a sleek (some might say characterless) minimalist design.

Kata Rocks’ pool overlooks the Andaman Sea, but not such a long walk from the seedy beach next to Phuket’s walking street.

There’s a spa, fitness centre and bar inside the resort. The place is obviously popular – they’re well booked up already for the summer.

And there are plenty of posts on Instagram from rich Chinese kids and Russians showing off.

But, really what’s special about the place? What hotel doesn’t have a pool, restaurant and spa. A quick look on any booking site and it’s easy to find places just as good for a 1/10 of the price.

It’s fair to say we won’t be staying at Kata Rocks any time soon.
